Saturday, 30 January 2021 | PNS | Chandigarh

Haryana State National Health Mission (NHM) director Dr VK Bansal said that as many as 7967 healthcare workers in Haryana received Covid-19 vaccine shots on Friday, taking the number of beneficiaries vaccinated against the disease in the state so far to 124,448. “We will move on to vaccinate frontline workers in the next month in line with the directions from the Central Government. The frontline workers are the safai karmacharis, police and paramilitary, home guards, disaster management volunteers and other jawans in civil defence, he added.

Talking to ‘The Pioneer’ over the phone, Bansal said that the health administration has been giving each beneficiary two chances before moving ahead with the next target group.

“We are planning to cover all healthcare workers by the first week of February. That was the reason behind increasing the number of immunization sites,” he added.

Haryana has taken a lead in effective implementation of the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccine roll-out by maintaining a good coverage. In the next few days, remaining around 70, 000 registered and eligible beneficiaries will be vaccinated, he said, adding that the State would soon be able to complete Covid-19 vaccination of all registered Health Care Workers except those who cannot be given vaccine as per guidelines.

Sources said that the Centre is likely to direct States to begin coronavirus inoculation of frontline workers along with healthcare providers from February 1 onwards. The Centre Government has said earlier that the state governments will not have to bear any cost towards vaccinating three crore health care workers and frontline workers.
