Paddy, rice worth Rs 9cr seized

The Raipur administration on Friday seized 34,647 quintals of paddy and 9,693 quintals of rice valued at Rs 9 crores after a raid on five rice mills. Raipur Food Controller Tarun Rathore said the action was taken on five rice millers who did not deposit rice after custom milling at the Food Corporation of India (FCI), an official communication said. The action was taken against Kanha Rice Industry (Arang), Salasar Bala Ji Rice Agrotech (Arang), Hanuman Rice Industry (Kharora), Janta Rice Mill (Kharora) and Girdhar Gopal Rice Industry (Nayapara). None of them deposited the rice after lifting the paddy in 2020-21, it said. Raipur Collector Saurabh Kumar has directed all the millers to deposit custom milling rice within a week.
