In what appears to be another outcome of man-animal conflict in Lakhimpur Kheri, the partially eaten body of a nine-month-old baby girl was found near a pond on the outskirts of the Mauzamabad village on Sunday afternoon.
This is the second such attack on a child in the district. On July 29, a three-year-old girl was killed in a similar manner in Maigalganj area of the district.
Baby Shivani went missing mysteriously while sleeping with her mother in the courtyard of the house after which her parents lodged a missing person’s complaint at Phoolbehad police station of Lakhimpur Kheri.
Subsequently, two dedicated police teams were deputed to comb the area during which one of the teams found the body.
A police inspector said, “Shivani's house is on the fringe of the village and is surrounded by agricultural fields. A number of carnivores like jackals, wolves and leopards lurk amid the cane crops which are ready for harvest. Recently, a pack of wolves killed two goats in the village. The autopsy report confirmed that the infant was killed by an animal. It is suspected that some wild animal picked up the child and slipped away. Forest department officials have been asked to run awareness drives in the villages and urge villagers not to let children sleep in the open.”
Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man died after being run over by a train when he fell on the tracks while boarding it at Shujatpur railway station in Kaushambi around 9 am on Monday.
As per reports, Narendra Yadav of Kanpur Nagar, was trying to board a Memu train to travel to Kanpur. The train was moving when Yadav tried to board it at Shujatpur railway station and in the process, he slipped on the track and was run over by the train.
The body was sent for autopsy and investigations were on.
