Patient's kin looted of Rs 5 lakh under BSKY: Complaint lodged

Thursday, 28 October 2021 | TARINI PRASAD PANDA | PARALAKHEMUNDI

A family here has alleged that without any treatment of their patients, a private hospital had looted them of Rs 5 lakh under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY).

The patient's wife and brother-in-law have lodged a complaint in this regard.

According to reports, one Tattela Apanna(51) of Chudangpur village of Hadubhangi panchayat of Kashinagar block suddenly fell ill. So he was admitted at District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Paralakhemundi. After under treatment for three days, he was referred to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Brahampur.

After 8 days of his treatment, the doctors referred him to elsewhere. So the family returned to the village losing all hope and they were unable to shift the patient to a private hospital due to financial constraints. Being a small farmer, Apanna's financial condition was not sound. Still, Apanna's family took him to Visakhapatnam with financial support under BSKY.

There the patient was put in ICU. The treatment went on for 19 days but there was no outcome. Finally,  doctors said the family members that their amount of Rs 5 lakh under BSKY had been exhausted and advised them to taxke Apanna back home. However, they didn't provide any details of the expenses.

Now, the patient is again under treatment at the DHH, Paralakhemundi.
