Earlier, the martial arts seemed as an activity, but now its forms are performed on stage. A spontaneous performance of Akhada Martial Arts left the Bhopalites totally mesmerised on Wednesday. The performance was held at Regional Science Centre auditorium by renowned Akhada artist Bhagwandas Raikwar.
It is to be noted that the event was organised by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) under horizon series.
There were interesting performances by 18 artists on poles, fencing and various poses. The dress and the beat of the drum was transmitting energy in the audience. The eye-catching performance was the human pyramid and dhera performance. The audience were smitten with this energetic performance.
The Akhada martial arts, survived since ancient times, are still keeping the art effective through their presentation. The Akhada martial arts team has so far trained more than 15 thousand children. In the program, lathi war, spinning of sticks in different posture, sword walking, shield attack, all these were successful performances by artists on martial arts.
The director of the martial arts 'akhada', Bhagwandas Raikwar, has kept the tradition of the arena (arms war) alive. He established Chhatrasal Bundelkhand Akhada in 1960 with the aim of keeping the Akhada tradition alive and expanding and preserving its art not only in the country but also abroad. This akhada performance is also listed in the ICCR.
