Plan to tap rain water for solving drinking water woes on anvil

The Peyjal Minister Bishan Singh Chufal has said that the water coming out from natural water courses during the rainy season should be tapped for drinking water supplies. He said that water tanks should be constructed to store this water which can be used in lean season and the village panchayats should be involved in the project.

The Minister took  a meeting of the officers of the Peyjal department in his Vidhan Sabha office on Tuesday. He said that the Panchayat Raj department has a budget of Rs 300 crore from drinking water head in the villages and the areas and villages should be earmarked where water scarcity is there. The minister also reviewed the progress of Jal Jivan Mission in the meeting. Later talking to the media persons, the minister said that rain water can be stored in huge tanks of 2.5 lakh litre capacity and this water can be used for drinking purposes in lean season. He said that the officers of the department were asked to conduct a survey of water  requirements during May 15 to June 15 and prepare DPRs for the different projects. The minister said that officials have been asked to submit the DPRs till the end of  this month so that the work on the project will start in the month of September.

On the Jal Jivan Mission, he said that 15.17 lakh water connections have been made and out of them 6.80 lakh have been connected with water sources.

He said that in the second phase the remaining connections would be linked with the source. The minister exuded confidence that the Har Ghar Nal ( Drinking water connection in every household) would be completed in the year 2023. The secretary Peyjal Nitesh Jha, additional secretary Peyjal Nitin Bhadauria and others were present in the meeting chaired by the minister.
