A play spun with the comic situations shows a brilliant transition of light from dark. The play 'Comedy in Dark' was brilliantly performed at Shaheed Bhavan on Friday, marking the second day of 15th Rang Mahotsav.
A masterpiece written by Peter Shaffer, the play was directed by Manoj Nair and was beautifully performed by the artists of Rang Madhyam Natya Sanstha. The play is an adaptation of the original script.
Struggling sculptor Manas Bhateja and his fiance, Natasha Kapoor, are having a party with the aim of impressing a millionaire Peeru Chandani.
They hope the millionaire might purchase some of Manas' sculptures. As Manas' home's interior is middle class, they thought of an idea.
Without permission, they borrowed the furniture and effects of their fussy neighbor, Vivek Mushran, to make their own flat more presentable. Just before the guests arrive, the main fuse blows, plunging the flat into darkness. Meanwhile Natasha's father arrives at their place to fix the marriage and Vivek Vivek also turns up.
What follows is a frantic romp with unexpected visitors, mistaken identities, and surprises lurking in every dark corner. The results were chaotic, disastrous and very funny, indeed.
The play was wonderfully presented leaving the audience mesmerised.
