Political parties pad up for DMC polls

Tuesday, 03 August 2021 | Pankaj Kumar | Dhanbad

Though State Government is yet to announce dates  and  schedule for Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) polls political parties have started padding up for contesting  for post of Mayor and deputy mayor besides others posts.

The Congress party even announced the name of the proposed candidate here but with it too a controversy has sparked off among  the party leaders.

A section of party leaders led by senior party leader  Jaleshwar Mahto announced the name of former minister  Mannan Mallik .

When contacted, district Congress president Brajendra Prasad Singh  expressed surprise over the announcement and said , "I am not even aware of his name being proposed and announced . I am not aware  who called the meeting . The party high command at Ranchi is the final decision maker ".

Yet another senior congress leader Shamsher Allah expressed disappointment over the announcement and said, "Octogenarian Mannan Mallik  is senior party leader but he must also keep in consideration his age as well as two successive defeats in assembly polls of 2014 and 2019 he contested from Dhanbad assembly segment".

Besides , the congress CPI-M and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) too announced contesting the mayoral post . Though both the political parties made clear that candidates would be announced at appropriate time. The JMM that has  marginal control over urban voters too is searching for a suitable candidate for mayor .
