The scope of power of Public Accounts Committees should be increased, this was emphasised in the argument put by Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly in the two-day centenary celebrations of the Public Accounts Committee of India.
Speakers of Legislative Assemblies across the country and chairpersons of Public Accounts Committees participated in this program organized by the Lok Sabha in the Central Hall of Parliament House, New Delhi.
Madhya Pradesh was represented by PC Sharma, Chairman of Public Accounts Committee in the presence of Speaker Girish Gautam. On the last day of the program, on Sunday, along with members Rampal Singh and Rajendra Shukla, Principal Secretary AP Singh also attended.
On the first day of this two-day event, Madhya Pradesh has drawn attention to the functioning and challenges of the Public Accounts Committees in the present times and demanded that the jurisdiction of the examination of the committee should not be limited to the departments of the government, but non-government finance within its purview.
It is important that so far this committee only examines the paragraphs contained in the reports relating to revenue receipts, civil and surplus, presented by the Accountant General on the basis of the audit of these departments. This is the reason why Madhya Pradesh side was also presented here to strengthen the systems of Public Accounts Committee and promote good governance. In which the existing system of timelines and administrative machinery for strict compliance of the recommendations has been prominent.
