Chhattisgarh Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma on Thursday said the government will not enforce prohibition in haste in the state unlike the way the Modi government announced demonetization.
Lakhma was talking to reporters at the Congress headquarters where he took part in the ‘Meet the Minister’ programme.
A large part of Chhattisgarh is tribal dominated and consuming liquor is in their culture. Hence, the consent of gram sabhas there will be mandatory, he said.
Chhattisgarh shares borders with states like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh and illegal trafficking of liquor from there in case of prohibition will have to be studied, Lakhma said.
Besides, several committees including that of public representatives and social organizations have been formed and their recommendations are awaited, he added.
