Punjab reported a 101 percent increase in the number of active cases in the month of February. From 2,101 active cases on February 1, the figure stood at 4,222 on Friday — registering a jump of 100.95 per cent.
On February 15, Punjab’s 1.34 per cent cases were active. The figure has now reached 2.33 per cent. As of Friday, the state has 4,222 active cases, of which 78 patients are on oxygen support; while 16 are critical and on ventilator support.
The state’s COVID-19 tally continues to witness an upward trend with a whopping 628 fresh cases reported on Friday along with 16 casualties. With this, the total number of positive cases has reached 1,81,004 in the State at the rate of 2.30 percent, while the death toll has reached 5,814 at the rate of 3.21 percent.
Among the deaths, three each were recorded from Ludhiana and Gurdaspur; two each from Bathinda, Patiala, and Nawanshahr; besides one each from Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, and Kapurthala.
Of the total fresh cases, highest 89 were reported from Nawanshahr, followed by 80 from Hoshiarpur, 75 from Ludhiana, 66 from Jalandhar, 65 from Kapurthala, 56 from Mohali, 48 from Amritsar, 25 from Gurdaspur, among others; with Barnala and Mansa reporting no fresh case.
A total of 255 patients were discharged after recovering from the contagion, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,70,968 at the rate of 94.46 percent.
