Punjab reports 2 deaths, 202 fresh Covid

Two more people succumbed to the novel Coronavirus in Punjab on Monday, pushing the state’s death toll to 5447.  The mortality rate stood at 3.21per cent in the state. With 202 fresh Covid-19 cases reported in the past 24 hours, the state’s infection count reached 169225, the state’s bulletin stated.  Of the total two deaths, one each was reported in Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur.

Among the fresh cases, the highest 32 were reported from Mohali followed by 31 in Amritsar, 19 in Hoshiarpur, 17 each in Patiala and Jalandhar, 15 in Ludhiana, 11 each in Ropar and SBS Nagar, as per the bulletin.In the last 24 hours, a total of 265 patients were discharged after recovering from infection, taking the number of cured persons to 160920 in the state, at a rate of 95.09 percent.

 The state still has 2858 active COVID-19 cases — accounting for 1.68 percent of the total confirmed cases in the state till date. Of them, 8 critical patients are on ventilator support, while 109 are on oxygen support, the bulletin added.

6 DEATHS, 244 CASES IN HARYANA

The Covid-19 death toll in Haryana rose to 2956 on Monday with six more fatalities, while 244 new cases pushed the infection tally to 2,65,199, a health department bulletin issued here said.

Among other districts to report new cases include Gurgugram (72) and Faridabad (36). One death each has been reported from Gurugram, Karnal, Panipat, Sirsa, Jhajjar and Jind.

The number of active cases in the state stands at 2547 and 2,59,696 people have so far been discharged after recovery. The recovery rate is 97.92 per cent, it said.

47 NEW CASES IN CHANDIGARH

The union territory of Chandigarh reported 47 fresh positive COVID-19 cases on Monday.”The total case tally reached 20342 and the death toll stood at 327 in the city,” as per the Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin.

The cumulative COVID-19 mortality rate was recorded at 1.6 percent. As per the bulletin, there were 259 active cases till the evening.  29 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours pushing the total number of recoveries to 19756. 

Among 47 fresh cases, 21 were males and 26 were females.

A maximum of nine positive cases were detected in Manimajra.  1.93 lakh samples have so far been tested in the city. A total of 1006 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and the report of 65 was awaited, the bulletin added.
