To support the farmers’ protest against the Centre’s agricultural laws, Punjab Youth Congress on Sunday declared to gherao (besiege) the Parliament on February 9.
“Congress would stand by the farmers. Earlier also, the Youth Congress had raised the issue by holding tractor march and setting a tractor ablaze at the India Gate. Now again, the Congress will besiege the Parliament to protect the interests of the farmers,” declared Punjab Youth Congress president Barinder Singh Dhillon.
Dhillon claimed that the Central Government is threatening the farmers through its goons. “The actions of the BJP to derail the two months long peaceful agitation on the borders, is a black mark on Indian democracy and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued silence has made such elements even more convinced and fearless in their acts,” he said.
He added that the Central Government is trying to benefit two or three of its friends and the Government is not only ignoring the farmers but also conspiring to ruin them.
Condemning the attacks on journalists and demanding immediate release of Delhi-based scribe Mandeep Poonia, Dhillon said that the Central Government is destroying democracy.
