Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that the ‘Red Light On Gaadi Off’ campaign will start on October 18.
Citing PCRA (The Petroleum Conservation Research Association) report, Kejriwal encouraged Delhiites to participate in the campaign and turn off the engine at red light. “A PCRA report states that turning off cars at red lights can save about `250 Crore and reduce pollution by 13-20 per cent. we can all avoid using our personal vehicles at least once a week to save fuel and reduce pollution.”
Delhi Government has launched various campaign, instance – anti-dust campaign, Green War Room, free spraying of Pusa- made de-composer in paddy fields etc.., for fight against pollution in winter season when meteorological factors play vital role in the dispersion of Suspended Particulate Matters (SPMs).
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo said, “The pollution levels stay within the safe limits throughout the year but during this time of the year, it starts to increase gradually. One can go and check my tweets in the last 3-4 days and observe how the pollution levels have been on the rise.
The reason behind this rise is the fact that the Governments of the neighbouring States did not at all try to help their farmers in managing the stubble.
The farmers have been forced into burning their stubble. It is very evident in NASA’s satellite images that stubble burning has started in the neighbouring states. Thanks to all of this Delhi will have to again bear with incessant winter pollution.”
H also mentioned about ten -point Winter Action Plan and urged masses to join campaign and said, "If we start to follow these three solutions- save fuel and combat pollution by switching off our engines on red lights, use public transport and avoid using our vehicles and be active and responsible on the Green Delhi App to notify the Government of any ongoing activity causing dust and pollution, then we will be making great progress in our fight. Throughout the last few years, we have worked hard in fighting against pollution, and we will continue to do so with all the efforts of the people of Delhi.”
