The BJD on Saturday organised a meeting to welcome appointment of 101 party office bearers in different positions and draw a blueprint for a protest rally to be held on November 24 against price hike of cooking gas and other essential commodities.
As per a call given by the party supremo Naveen Pattnaik, the party workers will join in the protest meeting in front of the office of the RDC (SD) here. Over 5,000 members from party’s youth and student wings, Mahila Morcha besides senior leaders will join and the party will submit a memorandum to the Union Government through the RDC on the day.
The speakers hit out at the Centre for its faulty management of the economy of the country which has resulted in price rise of essential commodities affecting people from all sections of the society. “If the Centre fails to take corrective steps with in a stipulated time frame to bring down the prices of cooking gas in particular, the ruling BJD will intensify the stir at village, block, NAC, Municipality levels soon,” said Brahmapur MP Chandra Sekhar Sahu.
Brahmapur MLA Bikram Panda at whose house the meeting was held urged the party leaders and workers to ensure joining of 5,000 workers from 40 wards of BeMC in the November 24 protest. At least 70% of the participants should be female workers, he said.
Leaders like Tumbanath Panda, Dr Bhagaban Gantayat, Sanjeet Panigrahi, Uma Nayak, Bijay K Samal, Jagannath Sabat and Subash Maharana, among others, were present.
