Road safety workshops planned for taxi and food aggregators

With an aim to ensure road safety for all in the city, workshops for taxi aggregators like Ola, Uber and food aggregators like Swiggy, Zomato will be organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police during the National Road Safety Month.

Traffic Police will observe the 32nd National Road Safety Month-2021 in Chandigarh from January 18 to February 17 under the theme of “Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha”, said an official spokesman.

He said that during the road safety month, various road safety awareness events will be organized by Chandigarh Traffic Police in association with educational institutions, social organizations and corporate organizations.

Workshops for drivers of CTU, Haryana and Punjab Roadways, Auto Rickshaw drivers, NMTs drivers, Ola, Uber, Taxi Associations, school bus drivers, food aggregators i.e. Swiggy, Zomato, dominos, etc will be organized during the month, he said.

Among other programmes, cycle rally, female two-wheeler rider rally, webinar on various road safety issues, interaction with media on road safety, road safety skits or nukkad natak will be organized, the spokesman said.

First aid training to traffic and PCR officials, free health checkup and eye checkup camp for commercial vehicle drivers, painting competition, blood donation camp,  road safety awareness at various FM radios and PA Systems, joint awareness regarding parking for differently abled persons at various markets alongwith MCC officials and MWAs, observance of zero tolerance day, special campaign regarding unauthorized vendors,  etc by team of Chandigarh Traffic Police and MCC officials will also be organized during the month long celebration, he added.

As per the official data, there were 48 fatal road accidents till December 29, 2020 and 51 deaths, less than half as compared to 2019, which recorded 104 deaths in 100 fatal accidents.  The less number of road accidents in 2020 were attributed to curfew and lockdown restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic.
