In a major drug haul, the Bhadrak police seized more than 519 grams of brown sugar being smuggled from Jaleswar in Baleswar district on Wednesday.
Six persons were arrested in this connection and lethal weapons were seized from the possession of the accused. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is worth Rs 50 lakh. The arrested persons were identified as Saroj Das alias Satura, Bipin Das, Aruna Malik, Debasish Behera alias Chiku, Prasanta Das, Saudamini Das alias Dalli and Purnima Das. Besides, the contraband, a pistol , an air rifle, ammunition, swords, choppers, five mobile phones and motorbikes were seized from the arrestees possession.
Sources said on the directions of Bhadrak SP Charan Singh Mina , a team led by Rural police IIC intercepted Saroj and his aides at Ranital Crossing in Bhadrak district and seized the contraband.
Mina said the sources from which the contraband was procured from Jaleswar have been ascertained but would not revealed as it would hamper investigations and the suppliers would be nabbed soon. Meanwhile, police have lodged a case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act and Arms Act and forwarded the accused to court.
