SBMCH runs on torch, mobile lights during power cuts

Saturday, 24 July 2021 | PNS | Hazaribag

In a half an hour power cut, the real situation of Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College in Hazaribagh was revealed. The hospital was seen to be running on torches and mobile flashlights in the wake of a power outage due to non-availability of power backup.

The emergency ward of this hospital is highly important for the people of five districts around Hazaribagh. But, unfortunately, the hospital is not equipped with an electricity backup and doctors and nurses have to resort to torches and mobile phones to continue their work when the power goes out.

The solar panel installed for the hospital has not been functioning for many years now and has not been repaired yet. The generator installed is not enough for taking the load of the entire hospital. Thus, due to these incapacities the hospital is running on no backup and doctors and patients suffer whenever there is a power outage.

The superintendent of SBMCH Dr. Binod Kumar said that they have repaired the solar panel by the engineer but it worked for only five days only. He further said that we prayed to God that no serious accident patient comes at night. If it happens, the hospital will be unable to treat the patients.

The administration has assured the public of Hazaribag that all medical facilities are available in the SBMCH to face Covid-19. However, in the present situation there is no arrangement of light in the wards as well as in the operation theater.
