A youth on Thursday attacked a Class-IX girl student at Tuta village in Khaira block of Baleswar district with a sharp weapon over a one-sided love affair.
Reports said the victim was attacked as she spurned the youth’s advances. The accused was identified as one Rashmi Ranjan Dash of Tuta. According to reports, the 25-year-old youth attacked the minor girl with a sword while she was going to attend her coaching class in the morning. Though the reason behind the attack was yet to be ascertained, sources said that Dash had proposed to the girl a few days back. As she and her family members rejected it, the accused was suspected to have attacked her. Following the incident, the accused has gone absconding from the village. The girl has been shifted to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition. Police were on the lookout for the accused following a complaint by the victim’s family.
