Intensifying its ongoing drive against property tax defaulters, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) sealed 18 commercial properties for not paying the outstanding amount of Rs 1.15 Crore on Tuesday. The action was initiated under Section 123D of ‘Delhi Municipal Corporation’ (DMC) act as the assessment and collection department took suo moto cognizance.
The Assessor and Collector Department of South Zone of the SDMC took action against commercial properties at MG Road in Ghitorni area of Aya Nagar ward as the owners of these properties have failed to deposit the property tax. The department had earlier served notices for outstanding amounts following which action was initiated, a senior SDMC official said.
The official said that under Section 123D of the DMC Act, the department has issued notices to a total of 17,500 commercial properties in the South Zone for not depositing property tax. Besides this, the department has also issued assessment orders to 730 commercial properties, he said.
The SDMC also requested property tax payers to pay their amount and play a role of responsible citizen, he added.
