Security alert in Jharkhand over Maoists’ protest week

Saturday, 04 December 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

Security has been enhanced in Jharkhand in the wake of PLGA week observed by the CPI (Maoist) from December 2 to 8 as security agencies have hinted to Jharkhand Police that Maoists can resort to violence out of desperation.

Sources in the security agency said that during the recent bandh, Maoists had damaged the railway track and even tried to target a police picket hence there were high chances of Maoists resorting to violence. In the wake of a week-long protest, Jharkhand Police and CRPF have intensified patrolling and area domination exercises.

Maoists have suffered two massive damages in the last month when its top-ranking leader Prashant Bose and his wife Sheela Marandi were arrested by Jharkhand Police.

At the same time 26 armed Maoists including Milind Teltumbde, in charge of Maharashtra-MP-Chhattisgarh committee of CPI (Maoist), was gunned down by an elite force of Maharashtra police in the forest of Gadchiroli.

Meanwhile, Maoists started a poster war in Palamau district to terrorise people. Chak, which is in the remote area of Palamu under Manatu police station, Maoists pasted posters at several places. Maoists asked people to join the CPI (Maoist) and they should submit their application at local schools, Anganwadi centers and panchayat centre. It also asked people to celebrate PLGA Week. Police removed all these posters and started an investigation.

Chak, bordering Bihar, was badly affected by left-wing extremism till 2015 when the CRPF camp was set up and road communication was improved. Notably, posters were thrown and pasted in the locality close to the CRPF camp.

Pamphlets were thrown near a picket on Kalali road by an unknown youth who is suspected to be an extremist of CPI (Maoist). Officer-in-charge of Manatu police station Pawan Kumar Yadav said that they were trying to establish the identity of the suspects.
