Self dependence in toy industry will have far reaching impact: Singh

Sunday, 28 February 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

A webinar was organised on Saturday under the joint aegis of the Press Information Bureau, Regional Outreach Bureau, Ranchi and Field Outreach Bureau, Gumla. This webinar has been organised on the first day of the virtual ‘Indian Toy Fair 2021’ to be held from 27 February to 2 March.

Inaugurating the webinar discussion, Additional Director General PIB-ROB, Ranchi Arimardan Singh said that the world of children starts with toys. “In a way, life starts with toys only. Children had different types of toys at different levels of development, from getting teeth to walking. Along with the change in time, toys have also changed. Earlier wooden toys were used more; today plastic toys have replaced them. By organizing events like ‘Bharat Toy Fair 2021’, the Central government is giving a platform to toy manufacturers through which their products will be promoted not only in the country but also abroad. Under the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign, local materials are being used in toy manufacturing, thereby creating employment opportunities and increasing local business. The concept of making India self-reliant in the field of toy industry by the Prime Minister will have a far-reaching impact. Such skills are also being promoted through various media mediums to encourage them,” he said.

Dr. Mahendra Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration, Central University of Jharkhand, said that the promotion of toy manufacturing sector is a commendable step of the Central Government. “This area can be developed by organizing events like Toy Fair. Entrepreneurs will also be attracted to this sector by organizing such an event. The toy industry also has an important role in the economy. Many types of toys are exported from India. It is therefore necessary that there is a proper marketing platform for the toy industry, so that we can reach and hold in international markets. Organizing fairs becomes important for the widespread promotion of toys,” he said.

Sabhyata Rani Singh, Assistant Professor, Fine Arts, Faculty of Education, Jamshedpur Women’s College, said that toys not only help in mental and intellectual development of children, but also develop creativity in them. “We can also say that toys lead to all-round development of children. Taking care of the environment, eco-friendly toys are now being made so that children as well as the environment are not harmed. Children are being constantly taught about how to make eco-friendly things such as handicrafts, mask making, glass painting toys etc. Children are more attracted by the beauty and appearance of toys and they begin to understand easily and they also develop their intellectual development quickly,” she said.

Manoj Kumar (selected participant from Ranchi for India Toy Fair 2021) while addressing the webinar said that India Toy Fair is getting a very good response. He said that soft toys are not harmful to children as they treat them as their friend. The toy industry today employs many people. There are many talents in our country, but there is a lack of self-employment. Kumar is connected with this field by training many people and appealed to the youth to become job seekers rather than self-employed. Many women can earn money by joining this industry in the free time of the afternoon. He further said that one of the good things in the field of toy manufacturing is that we also use waste material which also leads to waste management.

The webinar was coordinated and conducted by Regional Publicity Officer Mahvish Rahman. Regional Publicity Officer Gaurav Pushkar assisted in coordination. Apart from experts in the webinar, researchers, students, officer-employees of PIB, ROB, FOB, Doordarshan and All India Radio and officers and employees of other states also participated. Artists and members under the Song and Drama Department, PTC of All India Radio, Stringer of Doordarshan and Editor and Journalists were also involved. The webinar was also broadcast live on YouTube.
