The clashes in panchayat elections in the state continue, with a fresh incident being reported from Bijnor where supporters of a sitting and former gram pradhans attacked each other leaving over half a dozen persons injured.
The clash took place on Monday night and a heavy police force has been deployed in the village to avert fresh violence. Cross-cases have also been registered by both the sides.
According to reports, supporters of sitting pradhan Nafees Ahmed and former pradhan Anwar aka Annu of Pithapur village were taking out their procession which came head to head leading to heated arguments between the two groups. The situation took a violent turn when both the groups started pelting stones at each other in which over half a dozen were injured.
The supporters of Annu damaged several vehicles parked outside the election office of Nafees and his main election office.
Later, a heavy police force reached the spot and took the supports in custody. The cops detained Annu and his supporters and also registered a case against both the parties.
