The state Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) will now be lit with solar energy as the state government has decided to install solar power plants in ITI buildings.
“This exercise will not only save electricity but also ensure uninterrupted power supply. ITIs based in rural areas will benefit the most from this scheme,” a government spokesman said here on Thursday.
According to the Vocational Education and Skill Development department spokesman, the solar power plants with the capacity of 40 kW each would be set up in 66 ITIs of the state.
At present there are 300 state-run ITIs. The number of seats in these ITIs is more than 1.19 lakh. Recently, 44 new state ITIs have been made functional and this has resulted in an increase of more than 58,000 seats.
According to Kunal Silku, Director of Vocational Education and Skill Development, most of the ITIs are based in rural areas.
In the first phase, solar power plants are being installed in the ITIs of rural areas where uninterrupted power supply will facilitate the students in their practical and experiment works.
