Sons vandalise Covid Hosp after man’s death

Monday, 17 May 2021 | MONOHAR MOHANTY | NABARANGPUR

Enraged over the death of a man, his two sons damaged glass doors and some furniture of the Covid Hospital here alleging negligence on the part of doctors and other medical staffs in providing treatment to their father on Saturday night.

According to reports, the man had been admitted in the hospital on Wednesday. After his death, the hospital authorities informed his relatives and brought a Mahaprayan vehicle to shift the body as per the Covid protocol.

But reaching the hospital, the deceased’s sons vandalised the glasses of the Mahaparayan vehicle. Police along with officials of the district administration reached the spot. The hospital management made a complaint to the police along with CCTV footage.

Police detained the sons of the deceased.  Earlier, a video of a Covid-19 victim’s body lying unattended in the Nabarangpur Covid Hospital with staffs going about their business as usual serving other patients food in the same room had gone viral. The video showed food packets kept beside the body of the person, whose mobile phone kept ringing at regular intervals.

It was alleged that the deceased’s family members were informed of the death after much delay. Sources said the body was moved out of the ward only after the video went viral.

However, Nabarangpur district Collector Dr Ajit Kumar Mishara tweeted that the allegation were completely false and fabricated. On the other hand, former Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi alleged that the health system in the district has collapsed and the district administration has failed to tackle the surge of Covid cases.
