SP upoar in Council Warning issued to 7 MLCs

Thursday, 25 February 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

Agitated over passage of some bills in the legislative council against their demand for voting on them, the Samajwadi Party members paralysed the proceedings of the Upper House for almost the entire day on Wednesday.

The SP members also got support from other opposition members, including those of Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress.

The Legislative Council Chairman later served 'warning' notices to seven SP MLCs, asking them to maintain their conduct in future and not use any derogatory remark against the Chair of the House.

The notices were issued in the names of Udaiveer Singh, Sanjay Lathar, Rajpal Kashyap, Anand Bhaduriya, Sunil Singh Sajan, Santosh Yadav `Sunny', and Rajesh Yadav.

As soon as the House started its proceedings at 11am on Wednesday, the SP members, raising slogans against Chairman Kunwar Manvendra Singh, came inside the Well of the House and staged a dharna, forcing him to postpone the proceedings for half an hour and later till 12 noon.

The proceedings resumed at 12:30 noon after remaining suspended for two more intervals of 15-minute each. However, as the uproar continued, the chairman adjourned the House till 3 pm.

When the House met again, the SP members continued to make noisy scenes, forcing the chairman to adjourn the proceedings first till 5 pm and later for 10 more minutes. Finally the proceedings started at 5:10 pm during which the necessary proceedings listed for the day were completed and referred for necessary action. The proceedings were called off for the day after a brief address by Congress leader in the House, Deepak Singh, on vote of thanks to the Governor's address.

It may be mentioned that the SP members became agitated after Chairman Kunwar Manvendra Singh cleared some bills with voice vote against the opposition member's demand for voting. On Tuesday evening also, the SP members had entered the Well of the House against the chairman's decision and made an uproar leading to adjournment of the House for the day.
