Spat over BJP MLA’s ‘knee breaking’ remark settled

Thursday, 25 November 2021 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

The politics that started with 'knee breaking' remark by BJP legislator Rameshwar Sharma against the Congressmen, ended peacefully on Wednesday.

After Sharma, addressing a meeting of people in his constituency few days ago, had told that if Congressmen come, break their knees. Responding to this, veteran Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Digvijay Singh stated that he would reach Sharma's residence on Wednesday, if he (Sharma) wished, he could break his knees.Since the message circulated on tweeter, Sharma made all preparations at his residence and retired Ram Dhun since morning.

On the other hand, Singh along with his supporters reached Gandhi statue in Minto Hall campus and started reciting Ram Dhun. From there, when they started for Sharma's residence, the police stopped them.

Digvijay Singh along with Congress leaders started from Gandhi Statue at Minto Hall towards MLA Rameshwar Sharma's house, when they were stopped by the police near the barricading, 200 meters from the MLA's house.

Digvijay Singh asked the police to let him go ahead, but the police officials refused. They were not allowed to proceed. After this he sat on the road for half an hour and recited bhajans and went back with the Congress workers.

On the news of Digvijay Singh's arrival, MLA Sharma along with his supporters came out leaving Ramdhun, later the police made everyone sit inside.

“Digvijay is not coming to recite Ramdhun. He went somewhere else after saying Ramdhun. I am sitting waiting for him, making halwa-puri for them. Who is stopping them? Ram's court is held here” said MLA Sharma.

Earlier, Digvijay Singh tweeted that the BJP MLA had kneeled in front of the Congressmen. Former CM Digvijay Singh tweeted” Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram….Patita Pavan Sitaram….Ishwar Allah tero naam.”  Rameshwar Sharma retaliated on this and re-tweeted “this is being sung in temple-schools for the last 70 years. If it is played in mosques and madrasas, it will be a great favor, Raja Saheb”.

Later, on the question of breaking the knee of Congressmen, Rameshwar Sharma said that legs are broken by people by voting.
