A special session on World Mental Health Day was held on Sunday. The theme of the special session of the free online counseling platform 'Suljhan' organized on World Mental Health Day was 'Is Social Media Increasing Mental Illness?'
In the session, author, thinker and social activist Manoj Nigam and counseling psychologist Anindita Roy interacted with the participants and answered their questions.
The existence of social media in one form or the other has always influenced our lives. But from the past, the fast social media based on the Internet has too much effect, due to which many types of mental disorders also arise. Experts said this in 'Solution'.
Anindita pointed out that youth, especially young adolescents, become extremely upset by the fear of missing out on 'FOMO' meaning 'fear of missing out' and find themselves more beautiful, in different genres, in expectation of positive feedback or encouragement from social media.
It was also said in the session that everything is not bad in social media, but it was possible only through social media to connect with positive platforms like 'Suljhan'. But nowadays many games present a variety of challenges, in which children become violent but sometimes also get caught in sexual harassment.
In the session, the participating parents complained about the excessive use of mobile by the children, then someone told the problem of eating fast food by leaving roti and lentils. Anindita said that before instructing the child to use the mobile for work, make sure that you yourself use the mobile to a minimum, then only you are likely to be heard.
Promoted by Sargana Academy for Fine Arts and Helpbox, Suljhan is a free psychological counseling platform that anyone can benefit from. Facilitator Sunil Shukla presented and discussed the data, referring to the recently released UNICEF report on mental health of children. Sunil Avsarkar proposed the vote of thanks.
