Spurious liquor claims a life in Unnao

Hooch allegedly served by a candidate in the panchayat elections in Behta Mujawar locality of Bangarmau claimed one life while four others complained of loss of sight and the condition of one was said to be critical.
On learning about the tragedy, a team formed by Lucknow Range IG was sent to Unnao to probe the matter so that action could be taken in the matter. Senior police officers of Unnao also visited the spot but they denied any death due to spurious liquor.
Sources said that a party was hosted by an aspirant of gram pradhan seat in Argupur village on Sunday night. After consuming liquor, the condition of one Chotkannu aka Chhotey Lal (35) turned serious and he was taken to the community health centre (CHC) from where he was referred to district hospital but he died in the wee hours of Monday.  
The condition of Babulal, Naumilal, Rajesh and Balbeer also became serious and they complained of loss of sight.
On Tuesday, a team formed by IG Lucknow Lakshmi Singh reached Unnao for a probe. Inspector Manoj Singh, a member of the team, contacted the villagers and collected first hand information.
SP Unnao, Anand Kulkarni, also visited the spot and after meeting the villagers he denied that spurious liquor was served in the village.
The doctors at the district hospital claimed that they sent the sample of the victim Babulal to pathology in Lucknow and the allegation of spurious liquor would be confirmed only after the report was received.  
Sources said that if necessary, the body of Babulal could be exhumed to conduct an autopsy.
