State Govt vigilant against nationwide coal crisis:Energy Min

Wednesday, 13 October 2021 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar has informed that at present the demand of electricity is being successfully met in the State. The average demand in the State is about 10,000 MW. The maximum demand is about 11,000 MW. On October 11 at 7 pm, the maximum demand was 10,853 MW, which was supplied uninterrupted.

Tomar has informed that the demand for electricity is increasing in the State since last 15 days. More than 22 crore units of electricity are being supplied daily. The State Government is in constant touch with Coal India and the Central Government in the wake of the nationwide crisis of coal. Every possible effort is being made to ensure adequate supply of coal in the State. Efforts are also being made to transport coal through rail as well as by road transport for additional supply of about 16 lakh tonnes of coal. He told that the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is also constantly reviewing it. Tomar has said that there will be no shortage of electricity in the upcoming Rabi season and festivals.

It is clear from this that the supply of coal is according to the consumption. Even if 5000 metric tonnes of daily stock is used in addition to supply, it is still sufficient for supply as per consumption in a month. This is negligible against the total availability which is 2.328 lakh metric tonnes.

This position of availability and supply of coal is around this level for almost a month. With this availability and supply, electricity has been supplied in the month of September and so far this month without any declared / undeclared cuts.

Therefore, at present the coal supply situation, which is increasing day by day, will strengthen the coal storage situation in the state.
