State reports 1,637 new Covid cases

The State on Monday reported 1,637 new Covid-19 positive cases in the 30 districts and the State pool that increased the total tally to 9,69,185.

A total of 74,553 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate (TPR) was 2.19 per cent.

Out of the new cases, 949 were from quarantine and 688 local contacts. Khordha district reported the day's highest 350 cases followed by Cuttack with 250 and Angul 100. The districts which reported below-100 cases were Jagatsinghpur with 85, Jajpur 80, Puri 78, Kendrapada 76, Mayurbhanj 75, Bhadrak 71, Sundergarh 61,Baleswar 57, Dhenkanal 50, Nayagarh 39, Kandhamal 36, Keonjhar 18, Ganjkam 16, Nuapada and Rayagada 14 each, Sambalpur 13, Subarnapur 11, Nabarangpur, Boudh, Koraput and Malkangiri nine each, Balangir eight, Kalahandi seven, Jharsuguda six and Deogarh four. Besides, 71 cases were reported from the State pool.

Meanwhile, another 62 patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, mounting the total death toll to 5,574 in the State, the Health and Family Welfare Department said.

The maximum 42 deaths were reported from Khordha district followed by Sundargarh with 10, Keonjhar four, Jajpur two and Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal and Puri one each. However, another 2,204 patients recovered on the day, increasing the total recoveries to 9,47,381.
