Students welcome decision to postpone JPSC exam

Monday, 19 April 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

The Jharkhand government on Sunday announced postponement of the state civil services examinations due to surge in Covid 19 cases in past few weeks. Chief Minister Hemant Soren and state health minister Banna Gupta announced the postponement of JPSC Civil Service examinations along with other competitive examinations.

The civil service examination of JPSC seventh to tenth was to be held on May 2. Around 5.5 lakh were to appear in the JPSC preliminary test. Preparation for conducting the examination was on full swing.  Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan a few days back had visited various examination centres to take stock of the situation. A total of 252 vacancies were to be filled up across various agencies of the state government through JPSC 2021.

A total of 252 vacancies was to be filled through JPSC examination for various posts including — Deputy Collector, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, District Coordinator, Jail Superintendent, and others.

This exam was being held to fill vacancies in various departments and organisations generated during 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.  The online registration window of JPSC 2021 closed last month and the candidates were excited for examinations. The candidates who had applied online had to pass the prelims to be eligible for the main stage examination.

The students who have been waiting for State Civil Service Examination for long had welcomed the State government decision to conduct civil services examinations after four years, but the decision to postpone the examination has created tension in the minds of candidates.

Sunil Kumar Mahto, a resident of Hazaribag and one the aspirants said, “We were very happy that JPSC was going to conduct the civil services examination after four years, but now due to surge in covid cases the government has postponed the test.”

However, Mahto said that the government decision to postpone the examination is in the larger interest of students. He said,” Life is more important than examination. Examination can come and wait but life cannot be replaced.”

Echoing the views of Mahto, Mahesh Bhagat another JPSC aspirant said, “Government decision to welcome steps if the government had allowed examination would have led to spread of infection in big scale.”

The Covid cases in Jharkhand are making new records every day. There has been a spike in death rate with decline in recovery rate which is an alarming situation.

Jharkhand on Friday detected a record 3,843 single-day infections from 33,062 samples tested and 56 deaths.
