An SI of police Abhay Anand was deeply injured in head when a strong crowd of angry people mobbed him and hit his head with stone on NH 98 on Monday night, said the SP Palamu Chandan Kr Sinha. Anand was given 9 stitches on his head, said his officer in charge Suraj Chail of the Pipra police station. The crowd was angry over the death of a 50 year old man Sheonandan Yadav of NH 98 on Monday night when an unidentified vehicle had hit him and sped away.
The crowd felt the Pipra police did not act fast to trace or intercept the vehicle that so caused death to a villager Yadav of Labhra village.
However, SP Palamu Chandan Kr Sinha said this was not true as police did reach the accident site and before it could do anything the crowd went berserk and started pelting stones.
The SP said he has asked Pipra police to identify the ruffians who have physically harmed a police officer on duty and lodge case under sections of attempt to murder and preventing government officer from performing or discharging his official duty.
