To prevent the transmission of coronavirus in rural pockets of Uttar Pradesh, surveillance committees set up by the Yogi government have reached out to a population of 16 crore and isolated a sizable number of residents showing symptoms of any disease.
A government spokesman said in Lucknow on Monday that more than 4 lakh members of 60,569 surveillance committees were conducting door-to-door surveillance so as to enable early detection, isolation and treatment and thwarting the further spread of viral infection.
“The major outcome of heightened surveillance is that teams have been able to isolate residents under observation and get them tested through RRTs thus providing proper medical treatment to Covid patients in home isolation at their doorstep,” the official said.
Amid the influx of migrant workers and labourers into the state as a result of lockdown in Delhi, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the chief minister issued strict directives to contain the virus spread at the beginning by conducting rapid antigen tests on all coming to railway stations and bus stations from distant places. He also instructed to equip the quarantine centres for those testing positive with all facilities such as proper food and medical aid.
“In pursuance of the CM’s  orders, free medical treatment, medicine kits and proper food is being provided in the isolation/quarantine centres set up in panchayat bhawans, school buildings etc, as a result of which villages have shown swift recovery of Covid patients. Also, people found to be indisposed or those testing Covid positive are being treated as per established medical protocols,” he said.
