Survey of illegal constructions begins in Aravali

Following an order of the Supreme Court, the Forest Department has started the survey of illegal constructions in the Aravali range.

Forest officials claimed that after the completion of the survey, an action plan will be prepared by identifying illegal constructions. The survey work is expected to be completed in a week.

According to the officials, around five thousand illegal Farmhouses, Houses and other structures have been established in Sohna, Gurugram and adjoining districts.

The Pollution Control Board has filed a petition in the court against 600 of these, while one thousand have been served notices by the Gurugram district administration.

Recently, 430 illegal farmhouses were identified by the Pollution Board and their list was submitted to the Sohna Municipal Council.

The city council has also given notice to 350 and action has been taken against about 40. Despite these actions, the district administration as well as Sohna Municipal Council failed to stop illegal constructions and are not getting rid of illegal encroachments in the Aravali range.

“Efforts are being made to comply with the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Supreme Court. The department is making a full proof plan to take actions against such illegal encroachment,” a Forest official on requesting anonymity said.

As per a recent forest department survey, there are at least 500 such farmhouses built illegally on Aravali land in Gurugram, concentrated in areas like Gwal Pahari, Gairatpur Bas, Sohna, Raishina and Manesar.

“After the fresh direction of the Supreme Court, the survey of illegal structures is being conducted again in Aravali. Once the survey will be completed, action will be taken as per the available information. The work of giving notice is being done continuously,” Rajeev Tejyan, Forest Divisional Official said.
