A 17-year-old girl was shot dead by her father, allegedly to save the family's honour, as she tried to elope with her boyfriend in Budaun on Monday.
As per reports, the teenaged girl was a school dropout living in Paroli village in Bilsi police circle on Budaun. She had been in a relationship with a 21-year-old neighbour for two years. Despite both being from the same community, their relationship was opposed by her father. Even as the girl’s mother did not oppose the relationship, she could not persuade her husband to agree to the two deciding to get married.
Forced to stay in the house for months, the girl decided to run away with her boyfriend. On Monday, around 4 am, the two lovers were eloping with the objective of getting married at another place when her father spotted them. He warned her not to leave but when she refused to heed to his instruction, the father shot her with a country-made pistol from close range.
The victim's mother later informed the police and got her husband arrested. The assailant, a farmer by occupation, was later arrested and is reported to have confessed to killing his daughter in a fit of rage.
A case was registered against him at Bilsi police station and the victim’s body was sent for autopsy.
Meanwhile in Lalitpur, a woman was subjected to inhuman torture by two miscreants after she refused to give in to their lascivious demands in Dhamma village on July 21.
As per reports, the woman used to sell vegetables to eke out a living and was closing down her shop on the fateful evening when she was approached by the two lechers. Upon learning about their designs, she hit  them with slippers. However, they later overpowered and gagged her. To avenge their humiliation, the miscreants heated a knife with a lighter and shoved it into her eyes causing serious injuries.
The injured woman lay unattended till the morning when her sister-in-law found her and informed police before rushing her to a hospital. The victim’s kin alleged that the duo was infamous for their criminal activities. The woman’s sister-in-law claimed that the miscreants had tried to sexually assault the victim three months ago too but the local police did not take any action which emboldened them.
The police registered a case in this connection and are searching for the perpetrators.
