There seems to be no let up in the criminal activities of the “Thak Thak” gangs who continue to lift costly items such as phones, bags and laptops from the vehicles of the commuters right under their nose across the national Capital.
On January 12, Rajeev Kumar Chaudhary, Under Secretary with the National Commission of Women (NCW) became their yet another target whose phone was stolen from his car by the criminals while his attention was diverted by the another member of the gang.
Rajeev said he was travelling in his car in sarai kale khan area towards his home in Dilshad Garden around 4 pm on Wednesday. When he was just near CNG pump station, Ring road Sarai Kale Khan Flyover, a person suddenly started knocking window glass of his car. Rajeev said he lowered the car window after which the person who knocked started to argue saying his leg got injured by his car, whereas, his vehicle had not even touched him.
In the meantime, two more youth came onto the other side of the car and joined the argument. They diverted his attention and stole his mobile phone which was kept on the adjacent seat of his driving seat.
On the basis of his complaint, cops at the Sunlight Colony police station have registered an FIR and looking for culprits.
Similar incidents had been taking place across the city. Even though the police have managed to arrest a few gang members, this has failed to deter the criminals from committing the crime.
Last year in June, the Delhi Police had busted inter-state ‘Thak-Thak’ gang and arrested three of its members along with seven mobile phones and one country-made pistol. Similarly, a member of yet another such gang was held from central Delhi’’s Kotwali area November last.
