The district administration has taken action against three prominent food and sweet shops and slapped a hefty fine on them on charges of food adulteration.

Sub- divisional magistrate PK Tiwari in a joint operation with district Food Safety officer Aditi Singh conducted searches at Madhulika sweets, Shahi Darbar and Rasoi restaurants and found that these outlets were flouting the FSSAI provisions.

Giving details, the SDM who also is the competent authority under FSSAI said, "Madhulika Sweet was fined Rs 21,000 ,Shahi Darbar Rs51,000 and Rasoi Rs50,000 for violation of the norms of food safety and standards set by the authority."

The Food safety officer has also collected samples of sweets and other edible items from all three locations. These would be sent for tests, he added.

The drive would continue during the upcoming festive season so that people may be saved from adulterated food items being  sold by the food and sweet outlets.
