A tigress found injured reportedly after a fight with another big cat in the Peepalpadav range of the Terai central forest division died while being transported to the rescue centre in Ranibagh area on Wednesday. The sub divisional officer, Dhruv Singh Martoliya informed that during patrolling on Tuesday night, the department staff came across a tigress appearing sick in the Peepalpadav range. The tigress was walking a bit and then sitting down. The staff members informed their seniors and started to keep a watch on the big cat. The tigress could not be spotted on Wednesday morning. Considering her serious condition, a search operation was started and the tigress was finally tranquilised at 4 PM. The big cat was taken to the Ranibagh rescue centre and drip along with oxygen was administered to her but the big cat succumbed on the way. According to Martoliya, the tigress was estimated to be about five years old and had marks of deep scratches on various parts of her body apart from a deep wound on her head. It is being surmised that the tigress sustained the serious wounds in a fight with another big cat. The department is also searching for the other tiger involved in the fight to ascertain its condition.
