Trains, flight service hit due to incessant rainfall

Train services in the Ranchi and Chakradharpur Railway Division were impacted, while flight operations at Birsa Munda International Airport were diverted, due to incessant rainfall lashing State for past three days.

On Wednesday, the Tapaswini Express -18451 ( Hatia to Puri ) was cancelled for the second consecutive day. The train was also cancelled on Tuesday. Senior DCM cum CPRO (Ranchi Railway Division) Avneesh said, “The 18451 Hatia-Puri Tapaswini Express was cancelled for the second consecutive day on Wednesday. The train was cancelled as a goods train was derailed between Talcher and Angul.” On Tuesday the train was cancelled after which passengers were asked to receive their refund money. The Tapaswini Express running between Hatia and Puri, generally witnesses rush of passengers as a large number of people use the train for visiting Odisha.

Apart from these the 08105/08106 Rourkela-Puri-Rourkela Special train is cancelled today both from Rourkela and Puri. Similarly, the 68030/68029 Jharsuguda-Rourkela-Jharsuguda Passenger will remain cancelled on Wednesday both from Jharsuguda and Rourkela.

According to South Eastern Railway (SER) sources, due to public agitation at Garposh station since early morning today (15.09.2021), SER train services in Chakradharpur division have been disrupted. The agitation started at about 6:05 hours by a group of people and as a result several train services have been regulated. 

Also some trains were controlled in these sections. DN Trains, 02833 Ahmedabad –Howrah Special, 08638 Bangaluru Cantt-Hatia Special, 02518 Titlagah – Howrah Special, 02255 LTTE-Kamakhya Special. UP trains include 02834 Howrah-Ahmedabad Special, 08477 Puri-Yog Nagari Rishikesh Special, 03288 Rajendranagar-Durg Special, 02096 Howrah- Mumbai CSMT Special, 02517 Howrah-Titlagarh Special. 

While at one hand train services have been affected several flights were diverted or reached Ranchi late due rainfall. Some of the flights which were diverted on Tuesday include Delhi-Ranchi Indigo, Delhi Ranchi Vistara and Chennai-Ranchi Indigo.

The Delhi Ranchi Indigo flight was to land at Birsa Munda International Airport at 5.40 pm, but due to incessant rainfall in Ranchi the flight was diverted to Varanasi. Similarly, the Delhi-Ranchi Vistara was to land at Ranchi Airport at 7.20 pm, but the flight was diverted to Bhubaneswar. The Chennai-Ranchi Indigo flight was also diverted to Bhubaneswar. These three flights reached Ranchi mid night. Birsa Munda International Airport director Vinod Sharma said, “The three flights were diverted to Bhubaneshwar and Varanasi Airport because there was low visibility at Ranchi Airport. These flights reached Ranchi at midnight.”
