Transgenders’ battery-run vehicles in B’ngir

Sunday, 28 February 2021 | PNS | BALANGIR

Bolangir district Collector Chanchal Rana on Saturday flagged off four vehicles, which are battery-operated by transgenders, to collect segregated wastes from three wards of the Balangir Municipality.

There are two transgender Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the Balangir Municipality and their members have been trained to operate the battery-run vehicles.

Although, initially, this service would be available in three wards of municipality, it would be extended to all 21 wards, said the Collector.

With the involvement of transgenders in waste management, the effort would make Balangir clean and green besides improving their economic condition and would also help to mainstream them into the society, the Collector further.
