Chhattisgarh Police on Saturday seized 540 kg of cannabis valued at Rs 1.08 crores and arrested two persons in Mahasamund district who were transporting the drugs from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Mahasamund Additional Superintendent of Police Megha Tembhurkar said the two were Rajendra Shyam Singh and Shiv Kumar Tadiya, both 32. They hailed from Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district.
The action was taken after a tip that the contraband was being transported to Madhya Pradesh via National Highway 53. Police intercepted a pick-up van at the Palsapali check post.
The cannabis was stuffed in 18 gunny bags and hidden under gunny bags of potatoes, the officer said.
