Two BJP leaders face farmers’ wrath in Haryana

Saturday, 06 November 2021 | PNS | Chandigarh

Two BJP leaders on Friday faced farmers’ ire in two different parts of Haryana over the issue of three central farm laws.

In Hisar, the windshield of BJP MP Ram Chander Jangra's car was smashed after some people allegedly threw lathis at his vehicle during a farmers’ protest while former Minister Manish Grover alongwith other party leaders were held captive for several hours inside a temple complex in Rohtak by protesting farmers.

The farmers staged a protest against BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Jangra on his arrival in Narnaund town of Hisar where he had gone to inaugurate a community centre.

The farmers had gathered near the venue carrying black flags and chanted slogans against the MP. In a scuffle between the Haryana police and farmers protesting against the three contentious farm laws, the windshield of the MP’s car was also smashed.  Few people reportedly received injuries during the scuffle. Jangra described the incident as “a clear murder attempt”.  Talking to mediapersons, he said “After concluding my programme, I was on my way to attend another function when some miscreants threw lathis on my car, leaving it damaged. No one was hurt. I was sitting in the back seat of the car.”

“I spoke to Haryana DGP and the SP regarding this incident. I have demanded strict punishment as per law against the culprits.

Police officials informed me that two people have been arrested in connection with the incident,” the MP said. He further said, “I was attending a social function but not a political function. I was going to attend two more programmes in Narwana and Uchana but had to cancel the visits as my car was damaged, he added.

Former Haryana Minister Manish Grover along with other BJP leaders was also held up inside a temple complex in Kiloi village in Rohtak district for several hours on Friday as farmers staged a protest outside. The incident occurred when Grover along with the local BJP leaders reached the temple complex as part of their plan to watch from there the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiling a statue of Adi Shankaracharya at the seer's rebuilt samadhi in Kedarnath.

When the villagers and farmers came to know that the BJP leaders were at the temple complex, they surrounded the site, preventing the BJP leaders from coming out. The protestors also demanded that Grover should apologise to the farmers.

Senior officials of district administration and police of Rohtak and some from neighbouring districts were deployed at the site throughout the day to prevent escalation of the situation. Police said that the demonstrators allowed the BJP leaders to leave temple complex in the evening after the district administration and police officials pacified them.
