Tuesday, 13 April 2021 | Staff Reporter | JASHPUR

With the arrest of two persons, the Chhattisgarh Police on Monday claimed to solve the daylight looting of Rs 1 lakh from a trader in Jashpur. One of the accused is still at large.

Jashpur Senior Superintendent of Police Balaji Rao told The Pioneer over telephone that those arrested were mastermind Saurabh Badaik alias Sukhu (25) and Santosh Urao (18), both from Jharkhand. Ajay Tiger alias Shatrughan is on the run.

Three bike-borne robbers robbed Rs 1 lakh from trader Janardan Gupta (49) and injured him a week ago when he was returning from a weekly market in a village in Jashpur's Kotwali police station limits. Acting on a tip, police nabbed Saurabh. Initially, he pleaded innocence but later confessed his involvement in the crime and named his accomplices.

Police have seized Rs 28,000, a bike (KJ-01, H-5971) and a country-made pistol used in the crime.
