In a further breakthrough in the brutal killing of Kanpur Nagar trader Manish Gupta by local policemen in a hotel in Gorakhpur, the Special Investigation Team claimed to have arrested two more accused on Tuesday.
Just two days back, the SIT had arrested the local inspector and police outpost incharge who were absconding after being named in the case. The SIT has already announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh each on the absconding policemen.
Superintendent of Police (City) in Gorakhpur, Sonam Kumar, said, “Accused Inspector Rahul Dubey and constable Prashant have been arrested in connection with the murder of businessman Manish Gupta. The SIT had announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each on them.”
On Sunday, suspended cops Inspector JN Singh and Sub-Inspector Akshay Mishra were arrested in the same case.
Manish Gupta (36) died in a Gorakhpur hotel during a police raid. He was staying with two friends in the hotel. Police had earlier denied the charge and said Gupta received a head injury after he fell on the ground as he was drunk. Later, it was found that he died after police thrashed him.
A case of murder was then registered against six policemen.
The widow of the businessman, Meenakshi Gupta, has demanded capital punishment for the accused and trail of the case in a Fast Track Court in Kanpur.
