Sunday, 19 September 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

After the successful run of metro rails in Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida cities of Uttar Pradesh, two more major cities of the state, Agra and Kanpur Nagar, are soon going to have their own metro rail services.

Making this announcement in Gorakhpur on Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for five more cities -- Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Jhansi and Meerut -- were in the final stage.

Speaking at a function where he virtually unveiled the first prototype trains of Kanpur and Agra metro, the chief minister said, “I feel happy that Uttar Pradesh, the state with the largest population in the country, is operating this excellent facility of public transport in its four cities. The UP Metro Rail Corporation is working on a war footing to provide metro rail service in Kanpur Nagar and Agra.”

The chief minister said metro rail was the need of the hour and it would prove a milestone in the development of Agra and Kanpur Nagar. “It is a matter of time when five more cities will also have this safe, convenient and affordable mode of public transportation,” he added.

It may be mentioned here that Kanpur and Agra metros will start operation from November 30, 2021. Efforts are being made to get these metro services launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“With the help of metro rail service, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India is also being realised,” Yogi added.

During the virtual event, the chief minister congratulated all the officers and employees of UP Metro Rail Corporation including its managing director.
