Sleuths of the UP Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested two Rohingya refugees staying illegally in Ghaziabad on Monday night. On Tuesday, an ATS communiqué released in Lucknow confirmed that a team arrested Noor Alam alias Rafiq and Amir Hussain from Ghaziabad. A Rohingya, Hussain slithered into India illegally through Bangladesh while Noor Alam, a native of Myanmar, had promised Hussain to get a new Indian identity soon.
Noor Alam had been staying at Nayapada Refugee Camp in Bangladesh before coming to India and striking roots in Durbar Labar Khas in Meerut. He is a native of Kyaisang of Akyab district of Rakhine province in Myanmar. Hussain on the other hand is a native of Maugandu district of Rakhine province of Myanmar and after entering the country he started staying at Gali No. 6, Shriram Colony, Khajuri Khas area of Delhi.
The raiding ATS team seized mobile phones, PAN card, UNHCR card, Aadhar card and Rs 70,000 in Indian currency from the accused. The sleuths will now try to procure police custody remand of the illegal migrants from a designated court to extract more inputs on other such migrants staying illegally in the country.
Earlier on January 6, another Rohingya named Azizullah was arrested from Lucknow and thereafter the ATS was in search of his brother-in- law Noor Alam , who is reported to be the mastermind of a gang involved in bringing Rohingyas to India.
