UP govt over poor condition of roads

Thursday, 16 September 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati charged on Wednesday that the condition of roads in Uttar Pradesh was as bad as the state’s law and order and health systems and was proof of the Yogi Adityanath government’s failure.

The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh noted that the roads were directly connected to development and said that despite tall claims of the Bharatiya Janata Party government, the condition of roads was very bad.

"Like the law and order and health system in Uttar Pradesh, the bad condition of roads has led to suffering of the public. Newspapers are filled with news of road accidents and painful deaths due to water-filled potholes. It is difficult to decipher if there are potholes on roads or roads on potholes. This is most unfortunate and a living proof of the failure of the government," the BSP chief tweeted on Wednesday.

"Roads are specially related to the basic needs of the people and development and whatever slogans and claims the government might make, the condition of the roads in Uttar Pradesh has become so bad that people are unable to understand if there is a pothole on the road or a road in the pothole. The UP government needs to pay attention," Mayawati added.

Interestingly, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya announced a new ‘gaddha-mukt sadak’ (pothole free road) campaign from Wednesday. Pothole-free roads was one of the key promises of the BJP government which has been taken up by various government agencies but it has not yielded the desired result in the last four-and-a-half years of BJP rule in the state.
