Will act according to the Centre on cases registered against farmers, says Haryana CM

Monday, 29 November 2021 | PNS | Chandigarh

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said that the State Government will take a call on the demand for withdrawal of police cases against farmers according to the instructions of the Centre.

“When this issue (farm laws) will reach finality, what the Centre says at that time, we will decide accordingly,” the Chief Minister said while talking to the mediapersons here.

The Chief Minister was responding to a query that Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar had said the withdrawal of cases against the farmers protesting the Centre’s farm laws is in the domain of State Governments and they have to decide on it.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of farmer unions spearheading the farmers’ stir against the three farm laws, have said that they will continue their agitation until the Centre accepts their demand of a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) and withdrawal of cases against farmers, among others.

In Parliament's winter session, a bill to repeal the three farm laws, against which thousands of farmers have been protesting for the past year, will be introduced by the Central Government.

When asked that the farmers’ stir is still on, the Chief Minister said that it is for them (farmers’ unions) to decide on it but the law and order situation should not be disturbed.

More than 140 FIRs are registered against protesting farmers across 22 districts in the state. The farmers had been booked under sedition, attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, criminal intimidation, damage to public property among other related charges since the beginning of agitation against central farm laws during November last year.

Responding to another question on the alleged scam in recruiting dental surgeons in Haryana, in which the opposition has demanded an independent probe, Khattar said that the government has given full freedom to the Vigilance Bureau to investigate the case. The investigation agency is conducting an in-depth probe into the scam, he said.

The Chief Minister said that it has been observed that the recruitment mafia is deep rooted in the state and has been there for more than 20 years. But when any wrongdoing comes to the notice of the government, it goes for a crackdown to set things right. In the HPSC case too, all those found guilty will not be spared. We also urge our friends in the opposition that if they have any information, they should give it to us, the Vigilance or police, or they can provide this to the court, Khattar said.

Attacking the previous Congress government in Haryana, he said, “11 recruitments during their time were cancelled over irregularities. So far, none of our recruitment has been cancelled (by the court). A former Chief Minister also had to go to jail in a recruitment scam, Khattar said while referring to the former Chief Minister and Indian National Lok Dal’s chief OP Chautala, who served ten years jail term in teachers’ recruitment scam.

In reply to a question on COVID-19 situation, the Chief Minister said that he has been regularly monitoring the COVID-19 situation in the state and there has been no significant jump in cases.

He said authorities are alert in the wake of the new Covid-19 variant ‘Omicron’ reported in some countries. “We have issued a Mahamari alert... We received several suggestions on giving further relaxations, but we haven't because of the new variant. The government is fully prepared regarding the new variant of Corona. In this regard, continuous monitoring is being done by the Health Department and necessary instructions are also being issued by the Disaster Management Department from time to time,” he added.

The Chief Minister further said that the Deputy Commissioners of districts have been authorised to give permissions for melas and large gatherings, including the annual Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra next month, after ensuring precautions and COVID-19 protocols.

Antyodaya Gram Utthan Mela to be organized across the state

The Chief Minister said that under the Parivar Pehchan Patra scheme along with fostering entrepreneurial spirit among 1.5 lakh families having an income of less than Rs 1 lakh, Antyodaya Gram Utthan Melas are being organized at the block level to connect people with self-employment as well as to benefit them from the welfare policies of the government.

In the first phase, from November 29 to December 25, youths across the state would be given a chance to choose their profession at melas in 180 places, he said.

Khattar informed that a special campaign was launched to identify the eligible families under Mukhyamantri Antyodaya Parivar Utthan Yojana. Out of 3.25 lakh families whose income is less than Rs 1 lakh, personal information of 1.5 lakh families was taken and verified. The target of the scheme is to make the family's annual income at least Rs 1 lakh initially and Rs 1.80 lakh later, he said.

In the second phase, the work will be finalized by providing the loans sanctioned in these Antyodaya Gram Utthan Melas during the month of January, he added.
