Attacking Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav once again over the Jinnah controversy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that those who were “rioters and followers of Jinnah” can never understand the “mithaas of ganna (sweetness of sugarcane)”.
Speaking at a function after laying the foundation stone of Asia's biggest ethanol plant to be built in an area of 65.61 acres at Maijapur Sugar Mill in Gonda, Yogi said, "Before 2017, the condition of farmers was miserable in Uttar Pradesh. Now the farmers are marching ahead on the path of prosperity under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This new plant, to be built at a cost of Rs 450 crore, will be ready by May 2022 and will benefit some 60,000 farmers while 250 people will get direct employment.”
The chief minister also mentioned the year-long farmers' agitation and said that all three agricultural laws had been withdrawn in the larger interest of the country.
Taking a jibe at the previous governments in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi said, “Earlier, when the prices of petroleum products increased in the international market, some part of it was taken away by the people involved in anti-India activities as profits. Our own money was misused against us. Now the situation has changed. Prior to the BJP-led UP government, farmers were committing suicide in large numbers across the state. Farmers were toiling hard to produce food, but there was no arrangement for the purchase of their produce. People were dying of hunger and farmers were compelled to commit suicide for not getting the right price for his produce. All these things have changed in the state.”
In a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, the chief minister said, "Earlier, ‘bua and babua’ did not get the development work done. Electricity, toilets and houses could have been provided to the poor earlier too, but it was not done. All ration used to be directed to Saifai but when the government changed, everyone started getting facilities. The previous regimes instigated riots during festivals. But after the BJP came to power, festivals are being celebrated peacefully and with gaiety.”
The chief minister further said, “Nepotism plagues every project and even small development works. Today the state government is working for the welfare of every poor. When the SP was in power in the state, several starvation deaths were reported from Kushinagar, Sonbhadra and Chitrakoot. When I went to Kushinagar to enquire the matter as Gorakhpur MP, I found that the ration card of the family, belonging to the Musahar community, was with some SP leader."
